Shiva Pathak is the co-founder of Bengaluru-based Sandbox Collective, an organisation that curates, produces, and tours performances, and which also is the co-organiser of ‘Gender Bender’, an event that provides artists from across the country a chance to showcase their works that question established gender conversations.
This year, Gender Bender’s third edition on September 9th and 10th will be hosted by co-organiser, the Goethe-Institut Bangalore/ Max Mueller Bhavan. The Ladies Finger, a magazine dedicated to stoking conversations about feminism and gender politics apropos popular culture, is also a supporter of the event.
In this interview with RJ Shruti Sharada, Shiva talks about the beginnings of the event and what the jury selection process for the grantees entails. In the process of organising, she admits having learnt a great deal about the subject herself and hopes to expand the reach of the activity beyond its urban sensibilities.
