Beedi Badiya Vyaparigalu with Syed Azad and Asin: Owning a Small Business, and Wheel Cart Selling

In this episode of Beedi Badiya Vyaparigalu, Syed Azad and Asin from Anugondanahalli speak with RJ Radha.

Syed Azad sells vegetables from a wheel cart in the day time, and in the evenings, he sells cut fruits. “I used to work for my uncle initially. I started my own business later. I go to the market daily and purchase fresh vegetables for Rs 5,000 and fruits for Rs 4,000. I can’t hear too clearly, so I use a hearing machine; but selling vegetables and fruits is not a problem at all for me. My wife helps me load the wheel cart. We wish for our daugther to study well. Which is why I never take an off, not even on festive days. I earn about Rs 500 selling vegetables and an equal amount selling fruits per day.”

Asin used to purchase milk from a dairy and sell it back to neighbours but she had to face many losses as many of the customers would not pay her on time; she ended up paying the dairy from her own pocket. Later, she started running a small shop that sold bajji and kajaya. “My husband was addicted to alcohol and passed away when he accidentally consumed wood oil one day, thinking it was liquor. I took on the sole responsibility of my entire family.” Today, Asin’s minor shop has developed into a larger eatery and helps her earn Rs 8,000 per day. “I employ three workers at the place and we serve meals three times a day to customers.”
