Water And Sanitation – Lifetide Water Festival – RJ Shruti Talks to Hema from Bhoomi College

The Lifetide Water Festival was a great opportunity to meet like-minded people interested in water and water conservation. One the first day of the month-long fest, RJ Shruti had a conversation with Hema, who is a part of Bhoomi College, an institution that supports and encourages academic research and action for an ecologically healthy living. Hema spoke about a neighbourhood citizen project that she is a part of. The initiative aims to revive a nearby lake that is struggling to sustain itself by organising clean-ups, documentation, bird watching and walking trips, and engagement with the local administration.

The key driver of any citizen initiative like this is awareness, a willingness to study and learn, and sustained cooperative action. As well as another factor that water conservation activists stress on repeatedly – the involvement of school-going children in awareness and action projects.
